ORGANISATION AND GOVERNANCE
K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce is a community of learners distinguished by a diverse student body, dedicated faculty and stimulating educational opportunities since 1961.The College is a Non-Government aided College recognized by Government of Maharashtra affiliated to the University of Mumbai, and managed by Somaiya Vidyavihar.
Activities of the college are conducted under the overall direction of its Governing Council formed as per the guidelines of the Universities Maharashtra Act 1994. The Governing Council is the supreme decision making body of the college and takes decisions of strategic importance, collaboration with the national and foreign universities, approvals of plans, capital budget and other matters including long term direction.
For Academic guidance, the college has constituted Local Managing Committee as per the provisions of section 43(3) (b) of the Bombay University Act 1974 to guide and review in the routine academic, fiscal, administration and disciplinary matters. It plays a pivotal role in translating the college’s vision into activities.
Administrative structure of the college is very proactive. The rules and regulations, policies from the University of Mumbai, State Government and the Management of Somaiya Vidyavihar are communicated to the staff and students through meetings, notices, circulars from time to time.
As such, Day-to-day affairs of the college are supervised by the Principal, Vice-Principal. The Registrar SuperviseSs the administrative matters and Liason work related to the UGC, University, Office of Joint Director of Higher Education and other Regulatory authorities.
The Head of various Department for aided section and co-ordinators for various unaided affiliated courses look after the academic and administrative affairs of their respective department under the guidance of the Principal.
The Sports director Co-ordinates for imparting coaching in various sports to the students of the college.
N.S.S Program officer, N.C.C Officer, Chairperson cultural forum takes of extension and extra curricular activities by involving students to various theme based projects.
The college has a School Committee to look into the affairs of the Junior College.
